GP de la Comunidad Valenciana 06/11/09 – Cheste – 250cc Free Practice
STRONG WINDS STRIKE ON DAY ONE AT VALENCIA
Balázs Németh returns to the circuit where he broke his hand in June

The Gran Premio de la Comunidad Valenciana got underway this afternoon, with home favourites in the ascendancy as the 250cc free practice took place. Hector Barberá and Alex Debón, both from Valencia, were amongst the pacesetters – as was Mapfre rider Álvaro Bautista – with Barberá clocking the fastest time of the session as Spanish riders eclipsed the title battle taking place here this weekend between Hiro Aoyama and Marco Simoncelli.

For Balatonring rider Balázs Németh today marked his return to the circuit where he injured himself in testing, although he proved that he has both physically and mentally recovered from the broken hand he suffered. Despite the strong winds the Hungarian set a consistent rhythm as he made the most of his experience at Cheste, clocking his best time on lap 22 of 28 to finish the opening day in 20th position.

20th Balázs Németh 1.38.821 (28 laps): “My position isn’t great but I’m glad to be back at Cheste. Honestly I didn’t know what to expect or whether I’d adapt well following the crash here in June but everything went fantastic. I was able to use my reference points from the last time I rode here and I followed some other riders, which was useful for the slipstreams in such high winds. I spoke with my telemetry engineer and we used the information from the crash to make sure we worked in a different direction this time. I am sure we can continue to improve tomorrow and put on a good show on Sunday.”
